How long will a bouquet of flowers last without water after purchasing them?

today im going to by a bouquet of flowers for my parents anniversary but they dont come home till like supper time. when i buy the flowers how long can i keep them out of water for? my family is having supper at my grandmothers house so should i just buy them and put it on the table in a vase for when we get home its there?
